SAT Preparation for Students in Nigeria

TestPrep Africa prepares students in Nigeria for the SAT in live online lessons, taught in English. One-to-one lessons last 90 minutes, are booked in Nigerian time (West Africa Time) and cost from USD 80 per lesson. The SAT group course is 72 hours of live online classes of at most 6 students, grouped by level, for USD 1,050. Every plan starts with a free full-length diagnostic.

College Board runs the SAT at test centres across Nigeria on its international weekend dates. This page sets those dates against WASSCE, NECO, the UTME and US application deadlines, so the SAT lands where it clashes least with school exams. Lessons are live online and taught in English.

SAT dates for 2026–27, and where to sit them in Nigeria

When this page was checked on 8 October 2026, College Board’s test centre search listed centres in Nigeria for every remaining weekend date of the 2026–27 calendar, in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Benin City, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Ilorin, Warri and other cities. Centres and seats change, so check the search for your date before you register.

The ID you need at a Nigerian test centre

For students testing in Nigeria, College Board accepts only a valid passport showing your name, photograph and signature, or a permanent National Identity Number (NIN) card, and only the physical card. Digital IDs and photocopies are refused, and the SAT Student ID Form is not valid outside the United States. A student who travels to another country to sit the SAT must bring a passport. Sort the document out before choosing a date, not in the week of the test.

An SAT timeline for a student finishing school in Nigeria

This order works for a student on WASSCE and NECO who also applies to US universities. The SAT dates are College Board’s 2026–27 dates, so the spring dates fit a student finishing school in 2028 and the autumn dates one finishing in 2027; the pattern repeats each year. The Nigerian dates follow the 2026 pattern, because WAEC, NECO and JAMB had not published their 2027 dates when this page was checked.

  1. The year before the final year: diagnostic and plan

Start with the free full-length diagnostic, taken in Bluebook conditions. It gives a starting score and the question types costing points, and the plan is built from it — usually a few months of steady work alongside school.

  2. Spring of that year: a first sitting

For a student who finishes school in 2028, the 6 March, 1 May and 5 June 2027 dates fall in a year without WASSCE, NECO or the UTME. A first score in hand by June leaves the months before the final year for the weakest question types.

  3. Before the final year: the US list and the re-sit decision

With a real score, the US list becomes concrete: which universities require a test again, which are test-optional, and the latest test date each one accepts. That decides whether a second sitting is needed, and which date it should be.

  4. Autumn of the final year: the last useful dates

For entry in autumn 2027, the dates that still fit US deadlines are 7 November and 5 December 2026. MIT takes tests sat before 30 November for Early Action (due 1 November) and before 31 December for Regular Action (due 4 January); Harvard accepts the November series for Restrictive Early Action and December SAT scores for Regular Decision.

  5. January to April: the UTME on top

A student keeping a Nigerian university option registers for the UTME early in the year (26 January to 28 February in 2026) and sits it in April (from 16 April in 2026). The March SAT, whose registration closes on 19 February 2027, lands in the same weeks and is too late for MIT’s Regular Action.

  6. April to July: WASSCE and NECO

In 2026 WASSCE ran from 21 April to 19 June and the NECO SSCE Internal from 15 June to 23 July, both after the US regular deadlines, so a US application goes in on the school record so far. No timetabled paper in either 2026 timetable fell on a Saturday, but the May and June SAT dates fall in the middle of the exam season.

Which SAT dates suit each school route in Nigeria

Students in Nigeria reach the SAT from different school systems, and each one has its own exam season. The aim is the same for all of them: keep the SAT out of the weeks when school exams are being sat.

English tests alongside the SAT

The SAT and an English test answer different questions, and US universities decide for themselves whether they need both.

  • Each US university sets its own rule

MIT, for example, strongly recommends an English test for applicants who have used English for fewer than five years or who do not speak it at home or at school, and lists TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Cambridge English and the Duolingo English Test. A student schooled in English may fall outside that recommendation; other universities word it differently.

  • After the SAT, not against it

MIT accepts English test scores for Regular Action through the January test dates, later than the December SAT. Where an English test is needed, it can follow the last SAT sitting instead of competing with it for the same autumn weeks.

  • UK and Canadian applications in parallel

A student applying to the UK or Canada as well must meet each university’s English requirement, often with IELTS or another accepted test; some UK universities, Manchester among them, accept a strong WAEC English grade instead. The IELTS page for Nigeria sets out that route.

  • Self-reported scores

MIT does not require official SAT or English test scores at the application stage and verifies them on enrolment. Check what each university on your list accepts before ordering official score reports.

How SAT preparation works

Every lesson is live, online and 90 minutes long, scheduled in your own time zone. Lessons are taught in English, the language the exam is sat in.

  1. Free intro call

Fifteen minutes with an advisor, at no cost and with no obligation.

  2. Diagnostic

You sit a free full-length diagnostic in the real exam format before any lesson is booked. It produces a starting score and, more usefully, an error profile: which question types are costing marks, whether the problem is content or timing, and which sections need a specialist. The plan is written from that rather than from an estimate. It is taken online at a time you choose, so nobody has to travel to a centre to find out where they stand.

  3. Written plan

You receive a written plan built from your starting point and your test date: which SAT sections come first, how many lessons that realistically takes, and when full practice tests enter. Nobody is sold a fixed number of lessons before the gap is known.

  4. Lessons and review

Each lesson ends with set work and a target for the next one. Families receive progress notes, and the plan is re-read against every new score rather than followed blindly.

Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers. If yours is not here, ask us.

Yes. When checked on 8 October 2026, College Board’s test centre search listed centres in Nigeria for every remaining 2026–27 weekend date, spread across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and many other cities. Registration is on College Board’s own site; seats at popular centres can go before the deadline, so register as early as your plan allows.

No. For Nigerian centres College Board accepts a valid passport with your name, photograph and signature, or a permanent NIN card in its physical form. Digital IDs and photocopies are refused, and the SAT Student ID Form is not valid outside the United States. If neither document is ready, sort it out before registering for a date.

It depends on the university. MIT takes tests sat before 30 November for Early Action, so 7 November 2026 is the last date that fits; Harvard would like results by the end of October for Restrictive Early Action but accepts the November series. For the regular rounds, both accept the 5 December 2026 SAT. Check each university’s own testing page.

Not in 2026: WAEC’s WASSCE timetable for Nigeria and NECO’s SSCE Internal timetable put every timetabled paper on a weekday, and the SAT is sat on Saturdays. Some WASSCE orals and practicals, between 27 April and 8 May in 2026, were scheduled by WAEC itself, so check those with your school. The 2027 timetables were not published when this page was checked, and the May and June SAT dates fall in the middle of the exam season.

It depends on the university. MIT strongly recommends an English test only for applicants who have used English for fewer than five years or who do not speak it at home or at school; other US universities set different rules. For UK and Canadian applications, check each university’s English requirement, since some, such as Manchester, accept a strong WAEC English grade.
