PTE Academic Preparation, Online

PTE Academic is scored by software, and the software is consistent about what it rewards. Many students with good English lose points to things they would never notice — pauses, self-corrections, templates that do not fit — and those are exactly the things that are fixable.

Short answer

PTE preparation is offered online, one-to-one or in a group class.

One-to-one lessons are 90 minutes long and start at USD 67 per lesson; the group course runs 30 lessons of 90 minutes for USD 900, and a class never takes more than 6 students.

Group classes next begin on 4 January 2027.

What PTE Academic is

PTE Academic is Pearson’s computer-based English test, accepted by many universities and used for visa purposes in several countries. The test is sat at a test centre on a computer, scored by an automated system, and results usually arrive within about two days — which is often the reason students choose it close to a deadline.

Many PTE tasks are integrated: one answer is scored for more than one skill. Repeat Sentence, for instance, counts for both speaking and listening. That makes some tasks disproportionately valuable, and planning time around them is part of preparing well.

How PTE Academic is structured

PartWhat it covers
Part 1: Speaking and WritingPersonal introduction, read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, re-tell lecture, answer short question, summarise written text, essay and related tasks
Part 2: ReadingReading and writing fill-in-the-blanks, multiple choice, re-order paragraphs, fill in the blanks
Part 3: ListeningSummarise spoken text, multiple choice, fill in the blanks, highlight correct summary, select missing word, highlight incorrect words, write from dictation

Source: Pearson PTE, test format and scoring, checked 22 September 2026. 65–75 questions across 22 question types; up to 2 hours 15 minutes. Overall and skill scores are reported from 10 to 90; the overall score is not an average of the skills. Scores are valid for two years.

What the lessons work on

  • Oral fluency as the software measures it

Smooth, even delivery without long pauses or restarts scores better than careful speech with hesitations. It is trained with recordings and feedback.

  • The high-value integrated tasks

Tasks that feed several skill scores at once get more practice time, because the return on each minute is higher.

  • Writing to the format

Summarise Written Text and the essay have strict formal requirements. An answer that ignores them loses marks regardless of its English.

  • Timing across the whole test

Some sections are timed as a block, some per item. Knowing where time can and cannot be carried over is part of the method.

How PTE preparation works

Every lesson is live, online and 90 minutes long, scheduled in your own time zone. Lessons are taught in English, the language the exam is sat in.

  1. Free intro call

Fifteen minutes with an advisor, at no cost and with no obligation.

  2. Diagnostic

You sit a free full-length diagnostic in the real exam format before any lesson is booked. It produces a starting score and, more usefully, an error profile: which question types are costing marks, whether the problem is content or timing, and which sections need a specialist. The plan is written from that rather than from an estimate. It is taken online at a time you choose, so nobody has to travel to a centre to find out where they stand.

  3. Written plan

You receive a written plan built from your starting point and your test date: which PTE sections come first, how many lessons that realistically takes, and when full practice tests enter. Nobody is sold a fixed number of lessons before the gap is known.

  4. Lessons and review

Each lesson ends with set work and a target for the next one. Families receive progress notes, and the plan is re-read against every new score rather than followed blindly.
