IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

IB Diploma Tutoring, Online

The IB Diploma is six subjects, three core components and two years of deadlines that all land at once. Tutoring works when it follows your own subject guides, your own school’s internal deadlines and the IB’s rules on what help is allowed.

Short answer

IB preparation is offered online, one-to-one.

One-to-one lessons are 90 minutes long and start at USD 95 per lesson; lessons are booked singly or in packages.

IB group classes are private groups of three or more friends, who agree the start date with us.

From USD 95 per lesson

Some of the teachers who teach IB: Burak Kara, Tom Harrison, Melis Acar and Rebecca Clarke.

How the Diploma works

A Diploma student takes six subjects — normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level — one from each of the IB’s subject groups, with the sixth either from the arts or a second choice from another group. Each subject is graded from 1 to 7. The core adds up to three more points through the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service must be completed but is not graded. The maximum is 45.

Most schools sit the final exams in the May session; schools on a southern-hemisphere calendar can sit in November. Either way, the internal assessments are due months before the exams, and university applications — including UCAS in the UK and applications in North America — are made on predicted grades set by teachers well before the final results. That is why the year-one work matters as much as the final revision.

The structure of the IB Diploma

ComponentWhat it isHow it counts
Group 1: Studies in language and literatureA literature or language-and-literature course in the student’s best language1–7 points
Group 2: Language acquisitionAn additional language, at beginner (ab initio) or B level1–7 points
Group 3: Individuals and societiesEconomics, business, history, geography, psychology, global politics, philosophy and others1–7 points
Group 4: SciencesBiology, chemistry, physics, computer science and others1–7 points
Group 5: MathematicsAnalysis and approaches, or applications and interpretation1–7 points
Group 6: The artsVisual arts and others, or a second subject from groups 1–41–7 points

Creativity, Activity, ServiceExperiences and a project across the two yearsRequired; not graded

The Diploma is awarded from 24 points upward, subject to further conditions set by the IB. Each subject page on this site sets out that subject’s own papers and internal assessment.

What the lessons work on

  • Higher Level depth

HL content is where most grades are lost. Lessons follow the current subject guide unit by unit, in the order your school teaches it.

  • Mark schemes, not model answers

IB papers reward specific command-term responses. Students learn what “evaluate”, “explain” and “discuss” earn in each subject, from real mark schemes.

  • Internal assessments and the Extended Essay

Supervision within the IB’s academic integrity rules: choosing a workable research question, understanding the criteria, and feedback on drafts in the way a supervisor is allowed to give it. The work itself stays the student’s own.

  • Theory of Knowledge

The TOK essay and exhibition are assessed on criteria many students never read. Lessons work from them.

  • Predicted grades

Because applications use predictions, lessons in DP1 aim at the internal tests and mocks that predictions are based on — not only at the final exams.

  • Revision before the session

A structured revision course in the weeks before May or November, priced by the number of subjects.

The IB in Africa

IB World Schools operate across the continent, from Nairobi and Lagos to Accra, Johannesburg, Cairo, Casablanca and Dakar, and the Diploma is recognised by universities worldwide. Students in these schools apply in every direction at once — the UK, North America, Europe and home — which is one more reason predicted grades and written work deserve attention early.

The IB also examines in French and Spanish. Our lessons follow the English-language papers and mark schemes; a student taking some subjects in French should say so on the intro call, and we will tell you honestly whether we can support those subjects.

How IB preparation works

Every lesson is live, online and 90 minutes long, scheduled in your own time zone. Lessons are taught in English, the language the exam is sat in.

  1. Free intro call

Fifteen minutes with an advisor, at no cost and with no obligation.

  2. First-lesson assessment

There is no separate diagnostic, because there is no single test that stands in for two years of a school syllabus. The first lesson is the assessment: the tutor works through your recent marked work, past-paper questions from your own specification, and the units your school has already covered, and reads current level, gaps, exam technique and where school work stands. It is a normal paid lesson and it teaches as it assesses.

  3. Written plan

After the first lesson you receive a written plan: which units come first, how many lessons that realistically takes before your exams, and where past papers enter. It is revised as school covers new material.

  4. Lessons and review

Each lesson ends with set work and a target for the next one. Families receive progress notes, and the plan is re-read against every new score rather than followed blindly.

Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers. If yours is not here, ask us.

No separate test. There is no single test that stands in for a two-year syllabus, so the first lesson is the assessment: the tutor works from your recent marked work and past-paper questions from your own subject guide. It is a normal paid lesson that teaches while it assesses.

No. Writing, redrafting or editing a student’s assessed work breaches the IB’s academic integrity policy and can cost the whole Diploma. We supervise and give feedback within the rules; the work stays yours.

Yes, in every subject we list. HL and SL share a structure but not the content or the paper length, and each subject page shows both.

Yes, but only as a private group: IB has no group course on set dates. Three or more friends form their own class for Pre-IB (before the Diploma starts) or Mid-IB (during DP1), each at that programme’s own fee, or for IB Revision and group lessons during term at the IB Revision price for their number of subjects. Each student buys a seat on the IB pricing page, and the start date is agreed with the group.

Yes. Plans are built backwards from your session and your school’s internal deadlines, whichever session your school sits.
