GMAT Prep Course, Online and Planned Around Your Job

The current GMAT is shorter than the old exam and has no essay, but it is less forgiving: three adaptive sections, and Data Insights weighted equally with Quant and Verbal. Most candidates prepare alongside a full-time job, so the plan has to fit a working week.

Short answer

GMAT preparation is offered online, one-to-one or in a group class.

One-to-one lessons are 90 minutes long and start at USD 80 per lesson; the group course runs 72 lessons of 60 minutes for USD 1,050, and a class never takes more than 6 students.

Group classes next begin on 14 November 2026.

What the GMAT is used for

The GMAT is the admissions test most business schools use for MBA and specialised master’s programmes — in the US, the UK, Europe and elsewhere, including business schools in Africa. Only the current version is offered now. Its total score runs from 205 to 805 and every total ends in a 5, which is the quickest way to tell a current score from one on the old 200–800 scale.

Candidates can choose the order of the three sections, bookmark questions and change up to three answers per section. Used well, those features are worth points; used badly, they cost time. Both are taught.

How the GMAT is structured

SectionTimeWhat it tests
Quantitative Reasoning45 minutesArithmetic and algebra problem solving, no calculator
Verbal Reasoning45 minutesReading comprehension and critical reasoning
Data Insights45 minutesData sufficiency, multi-source reasoning, table analysis, graphics interpretation and two-part analysis, with an on-screen calculator

Source: GMAC (mba.com), exam structure, checked 22 September 2026. 64 questions in 2 hours 15 minutes with an optional 10-minute break. Section scores run from 60 to 90; the total from 205 to 805.

What the GMAT prep course works on

  • Data Insights

The section most candidates under-prepare, and a third of the score. Each question family has its own method, taught explicitly.

  • Critical reasoning and reading

Verbal rewards reading arguments precisely. Candidates whose English is strong but not native often gain most here from method rather than vocabulary.

  • Quant without a calculator

The maths is school-level; the challenge is speed and traps. Number properties, word problems and estimation are drilled under time.

  • Section order and the review feature

Which section to take first, when to bookmark, and when changing an answer is worth it are decided on your own practice data.

How GMAT preparation works

Every lesson is live, online and 90 minutes long, scheduled in your own time zone. Lessons are taught in English, the language the exam is sat in.

  1. Free intro call

Fifteen minutes with an advisor, at no cost and with no obligation.

  2. Diagnostic

You sit a free full-length diagnostic in the real exam format before any lesson is booked. It produces a starting score and, more usefully, an error profile: which question types are costing marks, whether the problem is content or timing, and which sections need a specialist. The plan is written from that rather than from an estimate. It is taken online at a time you choose, so nobody has to travel to a centre to find out where they stand.

  3. Written plan

You receive a written plan built from your starting point and your test date: which GMAT sections come first, how many lessons that realistically takes, and when full practice tests enter. Nobody is sold a fixed number of lessons before the gap is known.

  4. Lessons and review

Each lesson ends with set work and a target for the next one. Families receive progress notes, and the plan is re-read against every new score rather than followed blindly.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The GMAT is one of the eight programmes with a free full-length diagnostic in the real exam format before any plan is written.

Yes, at a test centre or online, depending on availability in your country. Registration and centres are on mba.com.

It depends on the gap between your diagnostic and your target, and on the hours you can give each week. The plan is written around your working week rather than an ideal one.

Many business schools accept both. Some candidates score noticeably better on one. Our GMAT–GRE comparison sets out the differences, and a diagnostic on each settles it.

Yes, both, plus full practice tests. Prices are on the GMAT pricing page.
